About Me

  I'm Andres Calle, born and raised in Lima, Peru, as a child I always had a passion for data, as a little kid I remember asking my mom to buy me some notepads and one of my passions was just to collect information; you might be thinking what 8 year old can write about, since my home street had tons of traffic, I would sometimes just sit by the window and write licenses plates in an organized manner, just to see how many times I would get the same car in different days, don't worry I don't do that anymore, I know collect other type of information.

  Anyway, I went to school for Computer Programming (Cibertec) and 'not by chance' I was also able to study some English (ICPNA), so as soon as I graduated from college, again 'not by chance', my family and I moved to the U.S. where I started a new life.

  Lets fast forward a little bit. I worked in the pharma industry for a while as a Database Developer and .NET Developer, later on I was able to work as a Web Developer and Middleware Developer.

  So, between my graduation year (1998) and now (2020), I have probably worked for more than 15 years programming and now I'm ready to start a new career, that is right, my plan is to become the best Product Manager and for that I have set my mind to study as much as possible and learn from different sources, this blog is to keep myself accountable and try to share all my findings along the way.

Product Manager Onboarding

  It is all about the stories. This is my 3rd week working as a Product Manager (PM) and I can truly say that the experience has been really interesting.   As I approach the one-month mark I can say I feel mostly comfortable with all my co-workers (even though we started in the middle of a pandemic and we are all working remotely) and as days go by I feel much more productive than when I started. Maybe what I am about to share is not exactly your situation but I find worth sharing it. My on-boarding experience has been totally different like I said due to the pandemic, however, there are 3 things that I would encourage any new PMs out there to do: 1. My First Philosophy

No, I don't know it all   It is only half way through my second week as a PM and I'm already losing my sleep. Have you been there?   All I can think of is when I get to do some meaningful work and radical changes? How soon can I learn everything that entails about this business? How soon can I become a better writer and use proper words to express these ideas? The problem is the more I think about these things, the more anxious I get and the more blocked my mind becomes.   I only have one option is to rely in my own ability to overcome any obstacle, whether the obstacle is within or from the outside, by doing this I let myself "go with the flow" and allow others to exercise their ability to help me grow in this new position.
